You always want to sniffing data, but you didn’t know how to do it? Well, in this case, your dream can be true by using the equipment costing about $80 here.

The presenters from CanSecWest security conference have demonstrated on how they can sniff data by analyzing keystroke vibrations using a laser trained on a shinny laptop.

During the experiment, they used a handmade laser microphone device and a photo diode to measure the vibrations. In addition, they also used software for analyzing the spectrograms of frequencies from different keystrokes.

A technique named “Dynamic time warping” has been used for speech recognition applications to measure the similarity of signals.

In order to avoid from being spied by the hackers, you have to use an infrared laser, change your typing position and mistype words, as these are the effective ways to against the unpredictable nasty spying.

Furthermore, the researchers also discovered that the information could leak to the electric grid and being detected on the power plug. In this case, they advised the computer users to apply a digital oscilloscope and analog digital converter, where they can filter the information to isolate the victim’s keystrokes pulses and disabling the hacking attempts!
